KLEYNE LIDER

Yiddish and Ladino songs

CD Hera 02110
Helene Schneiderman mezzo
Motti Kaston, baritone

Eytan Pessen, piano
(live concert  Stuttgart 15th June 2000)

An absolutely must-have recording for everybody interested in Jewish music and Yiddish/Ladino song in particular.
I can’t praise this release enough. Both soloists are professional and well-known opera singers in Western-Europe and give their everything in this  live recorded recital. They are far much better singers than you general get in releases as such whether in most of the the Milkin releases or the recently highly hyped ‘Yiddish Winterreise’ by Naxos. Kammersaengerin Helene Schneiderman is known to opera lovers as Gruberova’s Smeton on the nightingale classics release. The New Jersey born mezzo  in exquisite, fresh voice with excellent Yiddish (she heard and spoke Yiddish at home)  gives some original renditions of some of the most-well known Yiddish songs including a nice trill in Raisins and Almonds. The Tel Aviv born excellent baritone Motti Kaston is a leading member of the Stuttgart State opera and he too brings the house down with his interpretations. They have Eytan Pessen as an excellent accompanist and also responsible for some excellent arrangements. The booklet has all texts in the original and in English.
